Backyard Fun: Summer Edition!
With summer sun comes new-found free time for the kids and endless opportunities for family fun right in your own backyard. Here are some of our favorite activities to help the entire family enjoy all that the season has to offer.
Backyard camping
Pitch a tent in the backyard and enjoy some s’mores and stargazing! Even if you’d rather spend the night inside, you can still have a fun outdoor adventure on any cool summer evening. You can even repurpose the space during the day as a private reading nook or roll out the sleeping pads for a mid-afternoon cat nap. It’s great to have a little summer oasis all your own.
Homemade bubble wands
Create some homemade bubble wands for your favorite little wizards! All you need to do is cut a hole in a plastic lid and make a circle with wire or string (you can also use kitchen tools with holes, like cookie cutters!). To make the bubble mixture, combine 4 cups of water together with 2 tablespoons of dish soap and 1½ tablespoons of glycerin or corn syrup. Then place the mixture in a container wide enough for your wands, and watch the magic unfold!
Water fun
You don’t need a pool to beat the heat on a sizzling summer afternoon. Think of creative ways to keep the kiddos cool; you could make a colorful water balloon pinata, or set up the sprinkler and create a custom slip and slide course. A Suncast Hose Reel will help make cleanup a breeze when the summer fun is done.
Outdoor movie night
Imagine your favorite movie screening in the privacy of your backyard. You can project the movie onto the side of your house or string up a bedsheet for big-screen fun! Serve up some freshly popped concessions and other sweet treats and you have the makings of a five-star night.
